Hello, there had been something I have struggled trying to decide. I have had my heart set on becoming an anime director. Japanese anime is my favorite show, genre, whatever you wanna call it. I want to become an anime director and make my own stories and such, but the problem, I live in the U.S...... I originally lived in Japan (I am half Japanese) but after a few complications I ended up in America. I read about becoming an anime director and making my own anime after I found out that my heart is set on it but it seems that for an animation to fall under the specific category Japanese anime the anime has to be made in Japan and made for Japanese viewers . But can I work around that statement? Can I be able to create a Anime Studio, as the director, in America, based on Japanese anime? Can I produce the anime in America but make it for Japanese viewers? It reached the Western area so can't it reach back?
I know it would be easy to just move back to Japan and join a studio there but America has grown on me. I have made friends that I do not want to leave. I know it will be difficult and I'm sick and tired of reading that America is just not meant to make anime. I WANT TO MAKE ANIME IN AMERICA FOR JAPAN. I wanna prove to all the people out there it's possible. So far I have not found a studio in America like this except the closest is Funimation Entertainment. So I wanna know and hear from another person.
Can I become a Japanese anime director in America?

I'm not EXACTLY sure, but I would say probably not. You might be able to get away with making your own show, with an anime style. Either way, you would have to be high, and up there to actually get funded for all the things you need and be accepted. Firstly, if you're going to make the show an anime strictly meant for Japan, you have to know Japanese rather fluently. You need to gather up people willing to do the Japanese voices. I'd say your best bet is to actually move back to Japan. Making anime in America would be very difficult. Keep in mind Funimation Entertainment doesn't CREATE the anime. They hold the anime with subs and dubs. They didn't make the anime with THEIR ideas and things. I don't think you can make anime in America for Japan. You need way more then 1 person to make it possible, and keep in mind they have to speak Japanese.
With a lot of hard work, devotion and Determination, you might just be able to pull it off! I do believe you can do it.
