I've been drinking a lot of lemon juice in the morning. Increasing the amount per day for a cleanse and to jump start my metabolism. I mix 1 lemons worth of juice to one cup of water and drink in the morning. Today I squeazed 4 lemons and drank with water... it was quite a bit. I also got a UTI today, a pretty nasty case. I have another hunch of what could have caused it. But I was just wondering, could such high doses of lemon juice be the cause? They say a small amount with water could be good for a UTI, but did I just overdo it?
Can drinking too much lemon juice be the cause of a UTI?

Hi,
It's never been heard that drinking too much lemon juice can lead to urinary tract infections. People with a UTI should drink more water.
More than 95% of urinary tract infections are caused by single bacteria, and 85% of the pathogens are Escherichia coil. Sometimes it is caused by low immunity: such as having a cold can induce a UTI. A UTI should be treated. You can choose antibiotics or when it combined with prostatitis, then a herbal diuretic and anti-inflammatory pill may be an option. Lemon juice should not be drunk too much, because too strong acid will stimulate the stomach.
