Constipation is a nutritional problem and doctors have no training in nutrition. They are only trained in drugs and surgery. A colonoscopy means looking inside. You don't need someone to look, you need someone who knows nutrition. You probably are going to have to learn the subject yourself. It is fiber that cleans the colon. Wheat bran is the best fiber. Two slices of whole grain bread are enough, or veggies with every meal.
Magnesium strengthens muscles, calms nerves, stops cramps, and fights infections. Get epsom salt. It is cheap, five bux for a year's supply. Put a dose in a glass with water to cover and stir until it dissolves. Fill the glass with lemonade and drink it. You can take it without the lemonade but you won't like the taste. Milk of magnesia is more expensive but nicer tasting and gentler laxative action. Your choice.
Anything a doctor prescribes should be researched on the internet. Go to google.com and type the name of the drug followed by "side effects". My mother's doctor prescribed an antiseptic ointment with a side effect of damaging the hairs in the inner ear. IOW it destroyed your sense of balance. Not the sort of thing a 98 yo woman wants!
The colonoscopy it's self will not solve the problem, it will help find the problem. Chronic constipation can be caused by a number of diseases like diverticulitis or crohn's , maybe even colon cancer. Changing your diet now won't help until you know the cause. Different diseases need different diets. Get the colonoscopy.
