Scenario
Each calendar year, your team is allocated a training budget for the calendar year. For your team of six, the budget is £3,300 based on £550 per person per year. Should an individual have a significant training need which is related to meeting business objectives, then you can spend more on them, as long as you don’t exceed the figure for the team as a whole. It is unlikely that the amount of £550 per person will be changed in the next three years.
You are four months into the year and the current spend for each person in the team is as follows:
Name Moira David Anil Andy Sally Jonathan
Spend to date (£) 125 110 300 485 455 135
In addition to the spend shown above, your staff are undertaking a number of other courses. Moira is attending a course which she started in January and that lasts for the duration of the calendar year. The course costs £30 per month and is invoiced in two equal payments twice in the year: after six months and at the end of the calendar year. This year, David started a course at a local college which he is undertaking over two years. It costs £2,500 in total, £1,000 of which he is paying himself and the remainder of which comes out of the team’s budget. This sum is divided equally over the two calendar years that the course covers. Your predecessor also agreed to fund a course for Sally for next calendar year, which will cost £495.
