Can an electric generator produce electricity?

Details:

I am looking find a generator or some sort of power supply to run on electricity and to produce about 40-50 kw of power per day.Is this possible?

is it not possible to connect a generator up and run it with say 5watts and produce 50 watts? and why do you think it would be expensive?
