I was contacted By the vet I go to about a newborn wild rat. they are taking care of it until it can eat normal food and survive on its own and then I was asked if I wanted to adopt it and give it a good home. I of course said yes as long as it turns out to be a girl (i currently have all female). I am trying to do research but not getting the exact answers i need. I am wondering...#1 Can I catch a disease from the new baby wild rat? #2 Is it safe to eventually introduce this wild newborn to my domestic rats and allow them to live together? #3 since it is a wild rat can it pass a disease on to my domestics or make them sick? any and all answers will be so greatly appreciated! I currently have 4 domestic pet rats. 2 dumbo hairless (one of them albino), a furry dumbo and another furry although im not exactly sure what kind she is. the person i took her in from said she was a "regular" rat lol.

I dont really know about the diseases. But you should probably get all of its vaccinations. But for the rats living together you have to be careful because female rats get in lots of fights so I wouldn't keep them in the same cage but over time I think they'll be fine.
