As a huge Kansas fan, I had grown to love the Violin in rock and other genres in music. I asked myself the question "Could I convert any part of a rock song played by a certain instrument into a violin take?" I am well aware that it would not turn out 100% correct, however I thought I would research it. I had found no articles of anyone either proving or attempting it. I feel I hit a dead end, but was wondering on opinions. Any suggestions?

Well, that's a definite "Maybe." Anything played on a Dobro or a banjo is going to be a mess when played on a violin, and drum parts don't translate at all. What you are talking about is listening to a tune and then making up your own version. Your local community college has classes on how to do that.
