You should be pretty safe with a desktop computer, but watch out for laptops and netbooks.
Some manufacturers only make drivers for newer OS's. You should check and make sure that your computer or laptop can support windows xp before making any changes.

yes we can easiily run windows xp in vista but we have to install in another driver and also we must have system requriements of a paricular os because if that system does not have specified reqiurements of that particular os the computer will be hanged .so finally based upon system configuartion we have install and run the particular os i.e; either windows xp,seven or vista.
But now-a-days the latest laptops are coming with windows seven only .it won't accept any os.
