Buy the big ones first, or start small?

Question

I'm dealing with a list of items that range from a dollar to near $100, and it'll take a long time to complete, perhaps over a few months. I'd like to know if I should either:
--Save up my money and buy the most expensive items first, so every other item is cheaper than the one I just bought
or
--Go ahead and buy the little stuff first, gradually increasing the amount of money needed to get the next item

They're not really important to have, they're simply some decorations that would be nice to possess, but I can live without.

Obtain that which may be gone first (unlikely at this price range), which improves your livelihood the most (eg, a pair of headphones may not be crucial for survival, but if you like music it's more important than a random cat picture), and which is convenient to obtain, ie low hanging fruit.
