...  opening. The cans say "serve chilled", but nothing about them being kept refrigerated, but the supermarket keeps them all in their refrigerated section.

They taste far better once they've been chilled. 
If you think about it, a lot of juices and other drinks aren't kept in refrigerated, and you still need to drink them cold.
