My best friend is mentally ill (it doesn't really affect the relationship, but I think she feels that I can't relate). Her parents are very controlling and protective; they are uncomfortable with spontaneous get-togethers and it's not the casual atmosphere I want. I don't have classes with her this year and barely ever get to see her. Also, she has a new boyfriend who she is spending increasingly more time with. She says that texting gives her social anxiety and for this reason we barely ever text. I am not satisfied with this relationship. I want to have a relationship with my best friend like the ones I see on TV, in the movies, and the ones that other people have. I want a casual friendship where we know everything about each other and can hang out whenever. I want someone who I can talk to 24/7 and someone who will always be there for me, never distant. I want someone to do everything with. Do I need a new best friend? How can I tell her what I want, and how can I make it a reality? Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Well, this is a tough one.
I would have to say, talk to them, but as their friend.
I am sorry to say this but by the way things are looking, it may not work out.
Love isn't ending the story with a kiss, but love is doing what is right for the other person. If you truly love them, then you will love them enough to stay away.
Not every story finishes with a happy ending.
