Being asked to answer the phone at work under a different name because it's the same as the boss?

Me and my assistant manger have the same name, and so he doesn't " get caught up in my mistakes" has asked me to go by a different name at work, I'm struggling to find an answer to weather this is legal, as there's been no formal request to do so haven't seek legal advice yet. Any feedback will be great thanks

Answer with the company name and department you work in. That is polite and professional. Give your name when you ask what they are calling for.
