Hey Ladies!! I'm 13 years old and I just started my period a little over a year ago. I recently just finished my period and I have to go swimming in a couple weeks and since my period is so irregular I have no idea if it will come early, late or right on time?! I am not allowed to use a tampon because of TSS and I'm a little afraid to use one anyways! I have read everything online and it says tampons and menstrual cups are the only option but I can't use those! What do I do ? I don't wanna miss my friends birthday nor do I want to be embarrassed ! I need some real help and advice ! Thanks!

You will only get TSS if you wear the tampon for many hours. Inside the box of tampons, is a guide about TSS. It will tell you how long you should wear the tampon for. What I would do, is wear a pad, and when you are ready to get in the water, then you put on a light to regular tampon and change into your swimsuit. Then when you know you're completely done swimming, you can remove the tampon and go back to using a pad. It is kinda scary to use a tampon for the first few times. I had the same fear of using tampons and getting TSS too. But the more you have your period, and the older you get, the more comfortable you'll become with using it. And your girlfriends will understand. I also recommend talking to a trusted adult woman, such as a mom, aunt, grandma, older cousin, or even an older sister. At least one of them should be more than willing to help you out. It'll be alright kiddo. ;) I'm 17 and I can relate with you pretty well. I've had my period for only about 2 1/2 years now. Answer one of my discussion questions with any more questions for me, and I'd be happy to answer. ;)
