The bible says a boy becomes a man at age 13, but as usual, men think they have a better idea than God. A teen is forced by law to pretend to be a child until the age of majority, which varies from 18 to 21. In that legal pretense it is difficult to find productive work, buy things, learn how to get along with the world. The public school accentuates the kid's problem by teaching nothing and then scolding the kid for being stupid. Then he turns 18 and is expected to act like a responsible adult.
