some people claim we arent and our culture is too american, and we arent a country. They also say that puerto rican food is not REALLY hispanic.

Hispanics are also considered being those who speak Spanish. In Puerto Rico, you speak Spanish. Also, Puerto Rican culture isn't what we could say completely American, but their 'American' culture is the result of assimilation and colonization. Generally (I'm not saying all), Hispanics are quite jealous and criticizing and tend to reject those with some differences, but they're right in saying you aren't a country. You currently aren't a country but an incorporated territory of the U.S.
