Speech:

Hello, my name is ___________ and I'm here to speak about a specific topic, which is the positive effects of music on the lives of people. What is one of the many famous pastimes for people nowadays? What can you do whenever and wherever you are? People are seen listening to music every day, whenever they get the chance to. On the streets, in the car, at home, in all places, they listen to music.
Statistics from a survey by Edison Research shows that Americans listen to four hours and five minutes of audio each day. If America listens to this much music, just imagine how much music people all around the world listens to! Although people are very critical of music because of its many negative effects, there are some positive effects as well. Some of the numerous benefits of listening to music are that it helps people in focusing, it assists them in managing their moods, and it helps people in making new friends.

Firstly, one of the many positive effects of music is that it helps people in concentrating on activities they are performing. A study published in "Scientific Reports" show that listening to music results in people focusing better. Of course, upbeat songs do not contribute to this point, but other genres of music do. Music such as ballads and slow, relaxing songs positively affect a person's concentration more.

Moreover, another effect of music on people's lives is that music helps people in managing their moods. It is proven that when people listen to music, their brains release dopamine, a neurotransmitter that leads to increased feelings of joy. Speaking from my personal experience, I find this information to be accurate as well. A few days ago, I was feeling down and I decided to get my phone and earbuds out and plug the earbuds in. As soon as the soft, calming music began to fill my ears, I felt as relaxed as ever.

Lastly, music helps people make new friends with people who share the same interests as them. Most people prefer to make friends with people who have similar interests as them. This includes of people making friends with people who have the same taste in music as them. For example, this year at school, I have made many new friends because they have identical taste in music as I do.

In conclusion, music has affected our lives in many ways. It has negative effects, but it also has many positive effects. From helping people concentrate to helping people cope with their emotions to helping people make new friends, listening to music has proven to be extremely helpful in people’s lives. So now you know how music can not only effect life negatively, but how it is able to effect live positively as well.
