"Expired" does not mean "went bad". The federal law requires manufacturers to put a date on the package, any date. Most say "Best by" to make it a little clearer that the food does not go bad on any particular date. The most it means is the manufacturer's warranty expires on that date. Mineral supplements are pure chemicals. They never go bad. Canned food stays good until the can swells. Packaged bread products stay good until the package is opened, even a small hole. The shortening absorbs oxygen and stinks.
