A friend of mine got sunburnt. She was really red. Later, we were washing a red car. Looking back at my friend, her sunburn was totally gone. It was an optical illusion. Can someone give me some information on how/why this works?

i have a theory
depending on the color of the car ya.
If you hold a paper of a bright contrasting color up to your face you face you blend to the reflection of that color. The water dealing with the carwash has little to do with it. but the lights reflections of the shiny clean car onto your friend while her standing in the right place would blend the red burn into her skin. you would have a color change too standing next to the car but it would be unnoticeable so the direct reflection wouldn't be a pinpointed red spot on the skin but the entirety of your friend making her and everything else around her a different unnoticeable shade of red.
