right.. My mums Scottish and so is all her family,
My dad is English and so is all his family, I was born in England and lived there about 4 years. And now live in Scotland for the last 17 years!! I'd say I'm English,
But friends etc here say I'm Scottish as iv lived here for so long etc etc. And they say there isn't really a British etc... So what am I legally?
Am I Scottish or english?

you're english since England consists of Scotland or etc. For that reason you are English and There are words British and Britishers that are still exist. As you know, no country knows better than us ( We Indians) about Britishers. So, Mr. Britisher you belong to British Empire, problem solved.
A man not only live with his language. He live with all of his body too. You may insist you are English, but 17 years are enough to make a difference to your body. You should aware with the changes in your body which is conditioned by Scotland natural environment. So, when your body having no problem at all living in Scotland natural environment, which is mean can adapt normally there, why insist you're an English? Better to think of finding new job there than go to England, or marry someone you love (and love you offcourse) in Scotland!
