When I joined the army in 2007 I got a $20,000 bonus. I gave up $4,000 so that in return I would get an additional $36,000 on my Montgomery GI Bill since the Post 9/11 was not available yet. I am now about to get out of the army and have opted to use the Post 9/11 since it will be a better option for the school I am attending. I want to know if I can get the $4,000 back since I am no longer going to use the Montgomery GI Bill. I have the contract that I signed when I joined and have since completed my time for that contract. When I talked to the finance customer service here at my post they told me that I could not get a refund for the bonus money I gave up from the original bonus but couldn't tell me why and didn't really seem to know themselfs. If any one could explain why I wouldn't be able to get the money back or can tell me who I can talk to to get an for sure answer I would be very thankful.
Am I able to get my $4,000 that I gave to get more money on my Montgomery GI bill?
