so a guy start running from his house on flat road, of which he ran on a speed of 8 miles/h, then he climbed a hill at the speed of 6 miles/h and descend at 12 miles/h.
(all 3 parts doesn't have to be same in length)
then after descending the guy saws his friend and immediately runs back along the same route and back to his house, the total time is 45 min, so how long was the distance between the house and his friend?
Algebra math question about a guy running in 3 different speed and time total?

Hello. I am gonna set the distance of the flat road to x miles, the distance of ascending part to y miles, and the descending part to z miles. According to the speeds you gave me, I can get the formula x/8+y/6+z/12+z/6+y/12+x/8=45min/60. (time=time) You might wanna write it on a piece of paper. So, we need to calculate the distance, which is x+y+z. After combining the formula, I get (3y+3z+3x)/12=45min/60. So, the distance is 9 miles.
