The "glide ratio" measures how well an object glides. It is the movement forward to the movement down. An airplane drops 40 feet while moving 260 feet forward. What is the glide ratio of the airplane?

So your glide ratio is 260 to 40. The first thing you notice is that both numbers end in zero, so you can divide by ten by just dropping the zeroes. Now you have 26 to four. Both numbers are even, so divide by 2 to get 13 to 2 and that is your answer. You could state it as 6 1/2 to 1 and that would also be correct.
