Hello,
I have just vacated a house I was privately renting. I was only there for 6 months, my husband decided to have an affair leaving me and my 6 year old unable to afford the rent. I never missed a payment and the house was perfect when I vacated.
The landlord had £1160 as a deposit and I was expecting the lot returned by now. I handed the keys in on the 15th of March 2017.
The landlord is now trying to charge me £370 for lightbulbs, a screw that has come away from the kitchen drawers and a piece of red plastic that covers the light in the cooker.
I am pretty sure these costs are highly exaggerated and while im not saying these do not need fixing, I do think she is trying to take more money than what it would truly cost to resolve.
While I was a tenant, she thought it was acceptable to leave me living there with a severely damaged wall and security gates. The mortar was crumbling and could have easily collapsed on either my car or my child. The property was advertised as a 3 bedroom with garage, when in actual fact we couldn't even us the garage as the owner had lost the key.
I offered to get my friend who is a mechanical engineer to fix the kitchen drawer but the landlord wants a qualified carpenter. She claims it is an expensive kitchen, which i understand, but if it is so expensive why has the drawer broken?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated..
Loren.
