I know that anorexia is caused by mental predisposition towards it and social pressures. But to me it seems that starving oneself isn't the first thought that comes to mind when the goal is weight loss. If I were crazy self conscious and if I felt fat I would research dieting on the internet. I have some possible answers (but I have no idea if any of them are correct). The first is that the disorder forces starvation regardless of the information available, but that seems a little farfetched to me. My second one is that they just didn't think about looking dieting up, which again seems a little weird considering that it is 2016 and people not consulting the internet or even friends/family/anyone trustworthy for advice or questions is a little strange. I had a discussion with a friend and he was also curious.

Anorexia is a type of eating disorder caused by bullying, brain chemical imbalance, history of abuse (especially sexual abuse), pregnancy, history of obeastity, not feeling good or skinny enough, feeling worthless compared to other people, depression/ptsd & other mental illnesses.
I'v had it since I was 9yrs old, I'm 25yrs old now & 81 pounds.
ahh ok. They set the weight standard lower than they should which can alone with proper diet cause problems. But your response didn't really answer my question ;P
I actually just came up with a third theory. They may try proper diet but aren't sound with the progress they make (we all know restrictive diets can be a little frustrating) and they try just starving themselves and then they see results and ignore their deficits.
