... A sign board read "Average depth: 11 feet". A herd of elephants was coming by and entered the river in order to cross it. Even though the average height of an elephant is known to be 12 feet and the height of each elephant was certainly at least 11 feet yet, to the surprise of a boy camping nearby, all the elephants were completely submerged and underwater for most of the period. Why do you think that happened?

first of all it says average height meaning sum of heights measured divided by enteries of eight taken ...now a river is some what concave so on banks it will start from 1 feet to a depth even 20 feet..so see the average formula and draw a normal curve.. u will able to answer your assignment question...
