I have heard that people a guinea pig, a cavy but I am unsure as to how this came about. The history books have not given me an answer that I am satisfied with so I was hoping someone may have a valid reason as to why they are called a cavy. Also why are they called guinea pigs other than in the guinea pig books. Also why are they called guinea pigs other than in the guinea pig books supposedly Guinea they use because of the squeaking sounds they make but also that is why they call them a pig I would like more information as to why they are called guinea pigs and as to why they are called a cavy. I do not understand why so many people have not heard the term guinea pig or the term cavy and yet I completely understand why the majority of people I've spoken to cold in a big hamster, a really big hamster. The fact about how many toes a guinea pig has is How I Learned personally by going to so many stores and rescue sites and I counted the toes on the guinea pigs because it was my job to paint their nails, but then I realized hey I missed a few toes here where are the rest of them? Obviously I went to every pet store and rescue center I could find and counted the toes on just about every guinea pig I was able to physically hold because some we're not allowed to be held. Thus, I learned that the average guinea pig has a total of 14 toes. I stay average because some are born with an abnormal amount of legs Toes or have injuries from before they were rescued. Still, no one could give me a full-on answer as to why they are called guinea pigs or cavi. I am not here to judge your answers but in hopes to better understand why others believe they are called guinea pigs or a cavy. for anyone who has actual facts about why they're called what they're called I would really appreciate a response. Thank you
