It is incredibly important that Canadian students continue to learn about Second and First World War history because that era changed the world forever - economically, socially, psychologically, technologically, etc. It saw the rise of USA and Russia, as well as new Military tactics that continue to be used today.
Canadians should know what our veterans endured so that we wouldn't have to. Each country had its own unique roll in the war, and Canada did too. Noteworthy mentions for WWII are involvement in the strategic bombing campaign of Germany, the capture of Caen, the Hochwald gap, and the liberation of Holland. I'll bet you didn't know that the Canadians also raced across Germany to stop the Russians from invading Denmark? ;)
History is one of the more fun subjects anyway.
