Concerning American Airlines boarding groups: I am considering an American Aadvantage credit card that has a preferred boarding in Group 2 benefit. Can I receive that benefit if my company buys the ticket directly, and I do not use my credit card to buy the ticket. The company does provide my frequent traveler number as part of the reservation.

It is very true. Citi American Airlines credit cards will get you ahead of the line. But to get this perk your credit card account must be opened at least 7 days earlier to travel and your American Airlines regular flyer number also needs to be on your reservation 7 days ahead of travel.
Yes, American Airlines typically assigns boarding groups based on a passenger's elite status, fare class, or special privileges. However, using the airline's credit card to purchase a ticket is not mandatory to receive Boarding Group 2.
If you are an eligible cardholder, you automatically qualify for Group 2, regardless of how you purchase your ticket. Additionally, other factors like being an AAdvantage Gold member or flying in business or first class may also place you in an early boarding group.
For specific inquiries about your boarding group assignment or any related concerns, you can contact American Airlines customer service at 1-844-226-0007. If you are outside the U.S., check the airline's website for the local contact number.
