4x – 6(x – 1) = –8?

4x-(6x-1)=-8

answer: x=6

You have to distribute negative 6 into each number of the parenthesis, making it:
4x-6x+6=-8 (PLUS six, because you're distributing a negative six. Two negatives= positive.)
Then you can subtract 6 from -8, making it:
4x-6x=-14
Then you can combine 4x and -6x because they have the same variable, making your equation:
-2x=-14
Divide everything by 2, the equals side and the problem side:
-2x=-14
__ __
-2 -2
When you divide a negative by a negative it becomes positive.
So x is 7, because -14 divided by -2 is 7.

Why did you say at the begining that x=6?
At the end you said "So x is 7, because -14 divided by -2 is 7."
Please decide.I found that x=7.

I'm sorry, I don't know why I put six the first time. Seven is the answer. X equals 7.

I learned this in 7 grade.

4x – 6(x – 1) = –8
4x-6x+6= –8
-2x= –6–8
-2x= –14/:(-2)

x=7

good luck ! :)
