Both answers above are mistaken 'cause they've solved 3/5 m - 7 = 8 . If the question was stated like this, both above answers are correct. :) I see it is "8m" ,not just 8.
3/5 m - 7 = 8m
3m - 35 = 40m
37m = -35
m = - 35/37
m = - 0.94
"m" is a minus answer and yes it could be. You haven't said anything about being positive answer only. (like if m was a number of students,books...etc then it can't be. So the question is wrong.) :)
I see it in question as 8m , not just 8.
