I used to be employed at a company who terminated me because I was applying at other companies. I hired a good friend of mine at that company and they let her go because she knew me. Is that even legal?

If your friend is fired just because she knew you then it definitely comes under workplace discrimination and she can fight for her right by visiting a professional discrimination lawyer like Cummings & Franck, P.C. to get all legal help and advice. But if there are other sessions like work performance, violation of company policy, etc then this is not workplace discrimination.
