The purpose is money. Whats the purpose of any company? To make a profit.
Selecting a diet for your cat is nuts. Everybody thinks they know best and you will get groups who prefer raw, dry, canned, homemade, vegetarian etc. I dont know any except vegetarian that can kill a cat. My vet prescribes certain brands of dry cat food (Royal Canin for one) for heavens sake.
The real problem with kibble is the cheap grocery store brands are not the healthiest. Friskies and Whiskas both are in that category. The more expensive brands are healthier and you get those in the pet supply stores or from your vet.
Read the ingredients. The first four or five should never be water, grains, or by-products of any kind. The ingredients are listed in the order they appear in the product with the first the most and the last the least. Even canned food can be bad. If it says gravy on the package that means nothing more than flavored water.
Cats are obligate carnivores and MUST eat meat and have taurine in their food. Wheat is not meat nor are other grains. Its filler.
I have no problem with canned or kibble. My cats have a Rx kibble available all day because the are browsers. They get fed canned once a day. Per vet they are healthy.
Good Luck.
Dry foods like Friskies and Whiskas serve as a convenient and affordable option for cat owners. While they may not offer the same nutritional value as wet food, they can help maintain dental health and provide a balanced diet when used in moderation. However, it's important to supplement dry food with wet food and fresh water to ensure a well-rounded diet for your cat's overall health.
