Camping with a tent during rain fall?

Hello! looking for experienced campers. Would using an extra tarp under the floor of a tent be more effective? Or using a tarp over top of the existing tent cover that came with it? If you have any water proofing tips for tent please let me know :P thanks

if its a good tent no rain should come though. JUST DO NOT TOUCH THE TENT IF ITS RAINING OR AFTER IT RAINS  then it will come though.
