I just recently started working for a construction company. The owner was annoyed at my persistence to understand why he runs his payroll Friday to Thursday. He said he couldn't remember, but that's how it had to be done. Why would he be so adamant about needing it to run those days and not a Friday to Friday or a Sunday to Saturday?
Why would a construction company need to run payroll Friday to Thursday?

Place of business runs accounting software to manage payroll. This software downloads the latest tax tables automatically.

Yes, even with computers they can not calculate and print paychecks while all the workers stand and wait for them, drawing wages the whole time.
That was one possibility. It is possible that they have forgotten the original reason. It is not worth the effort to change it.
Are you suggesting it's done that way because of manual calculations?
To add, they have accounting software that also incorporates a Payroll feature, which in turn automatically downloads all the latest tax tables.
