For me it would be The Adversary Cycle book series by F. Paul Wilson as the fiction. Especially book 1 which was called The Keep. And yes, the 1983 movie directed by Michael Mann that starred Jurgen Prochnow is based on that book. The nonfiction that I keep going to is Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley.
